Indigenous Aquaculture Enterprises Project
KAAC and its members have developed, and are currently seeking funding to undertake, the "Indigenous Aquaculture Enterprises Project". This project will support Indigenous people of the Kimberley to develop the skills, awareness and capacity to participate in the Kimberley aquaculture industry.
It is planned to carry out the "Indigenous Aquaculture Enterprises Project" for three years to undertake skills and capacity building activities together with the provision of technical advice and assistance for the development of on-ground activities into established and self sustaining projects.
The Project will support Indigenous aquaculture projects by providing the above assistance together with the following services:
- Project planning
- Facilitate licensing and approvals
- Technical advice and support
- Training facilitation
- Facilitate capital/project funding
- Assistance in project construction and establishment
- Project management support and mentoring; and
- Continue extensive assistance to Indigenous aquaculture projects and activities across the Kimberley

Manbana Aquaculture & Discovery Centre
KAAC established the Manbana Aquaculture and Discovery Centre (operated by its wholly owned subsidiary Manbana) in 2002. The Aquaculture Centre operates as a commercial aquaculture hatchery providing employment and training for Indigenous people of the Kimberley. The Discovery Tours aim to maintain and restore the cultural connection of Indigenous people with the sea and waterways of the Kimberley, and share this strong connection with the wider non-Indigenous community.
The Manbana Aquaculture Centre now produces marine ornamental fish for the aquarium trade and trains and employs Indigenous Aquaculture Technicians. It offers a wholesaling service for Indigenous groups wishing to easily access the larger ornamental fish markets. (Manbana Hatchery)
Manbana Aboriginal Aqua Cultural Tours operate a variety of tours, which enable visitors to experience the strong relationship between Aboriginal people and the oceans and rivers of the Kimberley. The Tours employ and train Indigenous Cultural Guides and retail staff, and provide cultural tours to school and community groups including remote and at risk youth. (Manbana Tours )
